What's Happening?
Ontic, a company specializing in aerospace product lines, is expanding its presence in the engine and auxiliary power unit (APU) aftermarket through a new partnership with UK-based CFS Aero. This collaboration
aims to pursue licensing, product-transfer, and long-term support opportunities for established powerplant programs that original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) no longer wish to manage directly. CFS Aero will contribute its expertise in turbine engine engineering, certification, and testing, areas that Ontic has not previously developed internally. The partnership was announced at the 2026 Farnborough Airshow, with Ontic's Chief Operating Officer, Brian Sartain, highlighting the value CFS Aero brings in terms of system-level engineering and certification activities. Ontic will focus on individual components, parts, supply chain management, and commercial support. The partnership is open-ended, with potential future extensions into repairs, product improvements, and wider engineering development.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant as it marks Ontic's strategic move into more complex areas of aerospace engineering, such as complete engine and APU systems, which it has not previously handled. By leveraging CFS Aero's expertise, Ontic can offer a more comprehensive service to its customers, potentially increasing its market share in the aerospace aftermarket sector. This expansion could lead to increased revenue streams and strengthen Ontic's position as a key player in the aerospace industry. The collaboration also reflects a broader trend of OEMs outsourcing long-term support responsibilities, allowing them to focus on next-generation technologies. This shift could have implications for the aerospace supply chain, as companies like Ontic take on more significant roles in maintaining and supporting existing aircraft systems.
What's Next?
Ontic plans to continue its investment in manufacturing and repair capacity, both in the U.S. and the UK. The company has already transitioned over 200 aerospace product lines and is set to open a new 100,000-square-foot facility in Weston, Florida, by 2027. This facility will complement its existing operations in Miramar, Florida, and support its expanded capabilities in engine and APU systems. As the partnership with CFS Aero develops, Ontic may explore additional opportunities for growth, including potential expansions into new markets or product lines. The success of this partnership could encourage other aerospace companies to consider similar collaborations, further transforming the industry landscape.
