What's Happening?
ANZCRO has unveiled its most extensive 'New Zealand Book' to date for 2026–2027, significantly increasing its product offerings for Australian travel advisors. This new edition is larger than previous versions, providing more pages and diverse travel options.
The company's head of product, Louise Bilbie, stated that the expanded guide reflects the growth of New Zealand as a destination and ANZCRO's product range. The guide introduces new dedicated sections, including 'Cycling in New Zealand,' which highlights various cycle trails and self-guided cycling holidays. Additionally, it features expanded coverage of 'Heritage Expeditions,' offering small-ship voyages to New Zealand's subantarctic islands and other remote coastlines. The guide also includes an extended range of 'Sir Edmund Hillary Tours,' providing more guided touring itineraries along New Zealand's iconic routes. This release aims to give agents more reasons to recommend New Zealand, catering to a growing demand for active and adventurous holidays.
Why It's Important?
This expanded travel guide is important for the U.S. travel industry as it signals a broader trend in international tourism towards experiential and active travel. While the immediate focus is on Australian travelers to New Zealand, the emphasis on health, wellness, cycling, and expedition cruises reflects evolving consumer preferences that are globally relevant. U.S. travel agencies and tour operators can observe this trend and adapt their offerings to cater to similar demands from American travelers seeking active and unique international experiences. The inclusion of high-value, high-conviction sells like expedition voyages suggests a market for premium, adventure-focused travel, which could influence how U.S. companies package and market their own international tours. Furthermore, the incentive program for travel advisors highlights the importance of agent engagement in promoting destinations, a strategy that U.S. tourism boards and operators might consider to boost bookings.
What's Next?
Following the launch of the 2026–2027 New Zealand Book, ANZCRO will be engaging travel advisors through an incentive program, offering a chance to win a 7-Day Motorhome Hire and a $1,000 Sightseeing Voucher. This incentive aims to encourage agents to order the new guide, share it on social media, and book motorhome rentals through ANZCRO. The prize travel is valid from October 1, 2026, for 12 months, with entries closing on September 30, 2026. The guide is currently available for online viewing, with printed copies also available for order. This initiative suggests a continued focus on supporting travel advisors and leveraging their role in promoting New Zealand as a premier travel destination, particularly for active and adventure-oriented holidays.
Beyond the Headlines
The release of ANZCRO's largest New Zealand Book underscores a significant shift in the travel industry towards more immersive and active experiences, moving beyond traditional sightseeing. This trend reflects a broader cultural emphasis on health, wellness, and personal growth through travel. The focus on cycling and expedition cruises suggests a desire among travelers to connect with nature and engage in physically demanding activities, rather than passive observation. This could lead to a long-term shift in how destinations are marketed, with an increased emphasis on outdoor activities, sustainable tourism, and unique, off-the-beaten-path adventures. The expanded offerings also highlight the growing importance of specialized travel segments, requiring travel advisors to have deeper knowledge and expertise to cater to diverse client preferences, potentially elevating the role of expert guidance in travel planning.
