What's Happening?
The Greensboro History Museum is inviting residents to participate in the ONE by ONE Community Portrait project, which is part of Guilford County's America 250 programming. From July 8 to July 10, 2026, visitors can have their portraits taken at the museum
located in Downtown Greensboro's Cultural District. The portraits, taken by photographer Tom Styrkowicz, will be included in a photo mosaic displayed in the museum. Each participant will receive a free copy of their portrait. This initiative aims to engage the community in a collective artistic endeavor, celebrating the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.
Why It's Important?
This project is significant as it fosters community engagement and cultural participation in Greensboro, aligning with the broader America 250 celebrations. By involving residents in a creative process, the museum not only enhances local cultural heritage but also strengthens community bonds. The initiative provides an opportunity for individuals to be part of a historical commemoration, potentially increasing local tourism and interest in the museum. It also highlights the role of cultural institutions in promoting civic pride and historical awareness.
