What's Happening?
NBC has announced an extension of its Friday coverage of the U.S. Open golf tournament, ensuring that the broadcast continues through the conclusion of the second round. Traditionally, the final hour of coverage was
shifted to Peacock, but this year NBC will maintain coverage on its network from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. ET. This change aims to capitalize on peak viewing times and keep star golfers in the spotlight during the late hours. Peacock will still provide exclusive coverage for the first round on Thursday.
Why It's Important?
This strategic move by NBC reflects the network's effort to maximize viewership during prime time, a critical period for advertising revenue. By keeping the coverage of star players on the main network, NBC aims to attract a larger audience, potentially increasing advertising rates and viewer engagement. This decision also highlights the evolving dynamics of sports broadcasting, where networks balance traditional TV coverage with digital streaming platforms to reach diverse audiences.
