What's Happening?
Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens conducts three seasonal annual plantings each year, according to Horticulture Manager Jen Dunlap. The first display, a smaller annual planting, occurs in late April or early May, primarily for containers and bedding areas,
designed to complement flowering bulbs for early visitors. The main summer annual display typically reaches its peak from early to mid-July through early September. A fall display is then installed in early to mid-September, featuring asters, cabbages, grasses, and mums alongside hydrangeas and native sedges to provide autumnal colors. The horticulture team is continuously planning, with design concepts and orders for the following year due well in advance, indicating a proactive approach to garden management and aesthetic presentation.
