What's Happening?
Will Ospreay has disclosed that the original planned finish for his main event match against Kenny Omega at AEW All In 2026 was scrapped due to a spot being used earlier in the show by another wrestler. Ospreay, in an interview with Chris Van Vliet, explained
that he and Omega had to devise an alternative plan with only two or three matches remaining before their main event. Despite the last-minute change, Ospreay stated that their 'plan B' ultimately resulted in a superior match. The revised ending featured Kenny Omega kicking out at one after a One Winged Angel, followed by Ospreay kicking out of a Stormbreaker at one, before Ospreay secured the victory with a Hidden Blade. Ospreay highlighted the significance of Omega allowing him to kick out of the One Winged Angel, a move that had been protected for 14 years, with only Kota Ibushi previously kicking out of it.
Why It's Important?
This revelation offers a rare glimpse into the dynamic and often unpredictable nature of live professional wrestling production, especially for a high-stakes event like AEW All In at Wembley Stadium. The need for top-tier performers like Ospreay and Omega to adapt their main event on the fly underscores the creative pressures and challenges faced by wrestlers. The decision to change the match's climax, and Ospreay's subsequent satisfaction with 'plan B,' suggests a high level of in-ring intelligence and adaptability among AEW's talent. Furthermore, Omega's willingness to allow Ospreay to kick out of his highly protected finisher, the One Winged Angel, is a significant moment in wrestling storytelling. It not only elevates Ospreay's status but also signifies a passing of the torch or a major endorsement from one of the industry's most respected figures, impacting future storylines and the perception of both wrestlers' legacies.
Beyond the Headlines
The incident at AEW All In 2026 highlights the delicate balance between creative freedom and logistical constraints in professional wrestling. While wrestlers often plan their matches meticulously, the live nature of the sport means unforeseen circumstances, such as another performer using a planned spot, can necessitate rapid adjustments. This situation also speaks to the unwritten rules and etiquette within the wrestling community regarding the protection of finishers and unique maneuvers. Omega's decision to break the long-standing protection of the One Winged Angel for Ospreay is a testament to their in-ring chemistry and mutual respect, but it also sets a precedent for how such iconic moves might be treated in future high-profile matches. This kind of creative improvisation, while stressful, often leads to memorable moments that resonate deeply with fans and contribute to the lore of professional wrestling.
