Berthoud, Colorado, has opened its first fully inclusive playground, named S’Miles Playground, a project spearheaded by nine-year-old Miles Bowling. Miles, who uses a wheelchair, designed the park with his parents and community support after years of
watching his brothers play on inaccessible playgrounds. The farm-themed playground features several modifications for wheelchair users, including long ramps, a flat spinning merry-go-round, and a metal gondola-style swing with a ramp. The park also incorporates new technology, such as an interactive arch with audio games and a DJ table. The project, which took over five years to complete and cost $1.6 million, was funded through community donations and Miles's own fundraising efforts, including lemonade stands.
