What's Happening?
William Kamkwamba's inspiring story, previously shared through a TED talk, memoir, and film, has now been adapted into a musical. The production is currently being staged at @sohoplace in London until July 18. The narrative follows Kamkwamba, a young
Malawian boy who ingeniously built a windmill to provide electricity to his village during a famine in 2001. Despite financial hardships forcing him to leave school, Kamkwamba's determination and resourcefulness led him to construct the windmill using recycled materials. The musical explores the challenges faced by Kamkwamba and his family, highlighting the tension between his father's desire for him to receive a good education and the need for his help on the farm. The musical features a talented cast, with standout performances by Alistair Nwachukwu as William and Sifiso Mazibuko as his father, Trywell.
