What's Happening?
Governor Maura Healey and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) have announced a $4.2 million investment across 20 projects aimed at bolstering the state's offshore wind industry. This funding is allocated through two MassCEC programs: $1.7
million from the Offshore Wind Works program for workforce development and $2.4 million from the Offshore Wind Science, Research and Analysis program for scientific research. The Offshore Wind Works program will support eight projects focused on training and upskilling workers for offshore wind and maritime careers, including certifications for offshore wind safety and technical skills, and expanding internship opportunities. The Offshore Wind Science, Research and Analysis program will fund 12 projects dedicated to understanding the environmental impacts of offshore wind development, with research areas including fisheries, habitat and wildlife, regional transmission planning, regional monitoring, and science communication. These projects will also create paid internships for students at Massachusetts universities.
