The Downtown Urban Arts Festival has announced the winners for its 24th season, which ran from May 29 to June 20. The festival showcased the works of 19 playwrights and is produced by T. Marc Newell with artistic direction by Reg E. Gaines. The Best Play
award went to 'Gin & Milk,' written and directed by Antony Raymond, featuring Christopher Heard and Julia Keesler. 'Sing Truth to Power' by Howard Ho, directed by Jully Lee, won Best Short and tied for Best Audience with 'Whiskey, Hope and The Climate Clock' by Carter Quinn Tanis and Marissa Raine Carlin. Each category winner receives a trophy and a $1,000 prize, with ties splitting the monetary award. The festival, founded in 2001, aims to build a repertoire of new American theatre that reflects urban life and speaks to a new generation.
