Applegate Farms, a subsidiary of Hormel Foods Corp., has announced new findings regarding the omega fatty acid composition in its Regenerative Organic Certified all-beef hot dogs. As part of its Regenerative Health initiative, Applegate partnered with
Edacious, an ISO-accredited laboratory, to analyze the omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acid content. The study found that Applegate’s 'The Great Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dog' product has an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio of 1.3:1. This ratio is significantly lower than conventional grain-finished beef (7.0:1) and even lower than typical grass-fed beef (2.0:1). Joseph O’Connor, president of Applegate, stated that while research shows agricultural practices benefit soil and ecosystems, this initiative aims to explore how these practices influence the nutritional characteristics of food. The company plans to fund further research into whether consuming organic grass-fed beef positively influences human health.
