China's SpaceSail, officially known as Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, has successfully completed a Series B funding round, raising approximately 7 billion yuan (US$1 billion). This significant capital injection is earmarked to accelerate the
development and deployment of its low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellite network, the Qianfan constellation. The funding round saw participation from 18 investors, including state-backed Shanghai Alliance Investment and hard tech-focused venture fund CAS Star. This investment has propelled SpaceSail's valuation to about 50 billion yuan. The company, founded in 2018, has been rapidly expanding its satellite footprint, launching 54 satellites in 2024, 108 in 2025, and reaching 238 Qianfan satellites after its latest deployment in early July.
