Micron Technology has finalized strategic capacity agreements with customers, locking in approximately $100 billion in minimum revenue through take-or-pay memory contracts. These agreements, totaling 16 deals, require customers to commit $22 billion in cash
deposits and financial commitments to guarantee memory supply, primarily for AI applications, through 2030. Fourteen of these contracts alone account for the $100 billion in revenue. Micron's CFO Mark Murphy clarified that roughly $18 billion of the $22 billion is cash, with the remainder in letters of credit. These funds do not count as prepaid revenue but are returned to customers on a schedule weighted towards the latter half of the contract terms. Most agreements span five years, from 2026 to late 2030, while automotive deals typically last three years. The terms mandate customers to purchase a set volume at agreed pricing, irrespective of their actual need, and include a price floor for the entire contract duration. Micron's new capacity is not expected to ship until mid-2027 at the earliest, meaning customers are financing future production.
