What's Happening?
Ming, a watch brand known for its innovative designs, has collaborated with J.N. Shapiro to create the 'Lightning' watch, featuring unique dials. The dials are crafted from grade-2 titanium blanks and hand-guillochéd in Los Angeles by J.N. Shapiro's team.
This process involves engine-turning on a traditional rose-engine lathe to create a 'Lightning guilloché' pattern. The dials are then sent to Kuala Lumpur, where Ming Thein applies heat to create distinct coloration, making each dial unique. This collaboration follows Ming's previous success with the 37.09 'Bluefin,' which won the best sports watch at GPHG in 2024.
Why It's Important?
The collaboration between Ming and J.N. Shapiro highlights the growing trend of innovative and artisanal watchmaking. By combining traditional techniques with modern design, the partnership showcases the potential for unique and personalized timepieces in the luxury watch market. This approach not only appeals to collectors and enthusiasts but also sets a precedent for future collaborations in the industry. The success of such ventures can drive interest and investment in artisanal watchmaking, potentially influencing market trends and consumer preferences.
