The Overland Park Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Shawnee Mission School District (SMSD) to launch the SMSD Student Chamber, a curriculum-driven program designed to cultivate entrepreneurship, innovation, and real-world learning experiences
among students. This initiative, launched in 2024, has already engaged over 400 students and more than 20 industry partners. A key event of the program is the annual Student Startup Showcase, where students present business ideas to local professionals, receive feedback, and compete for prize money. Additionally, students participate in quarterly meetings, such as a recent visit to Oak Park Mall, where they interacted with various local business owners and managers to gain insights into their operations and community roles. The program aims to provide students with practical skills and connections within the business community.
