What's Happening?
Ondas Inc. has been selected to provide advanced counter-drone protection for Jacksonville Jaguars NFL games at EverBank Stadium. The Jaguars are the first NFL team to invest in a counter-UAS capability that enforces Temporary Flight Restrictions under
the SAFER SKIES Act. The system, operated by trained law enforcement officials, will detect, identify, and mitigate unauthorized drones without disrupting game operations. This decision follows a comprehensive evaluation process involving multiple stakeholders, including local law enforcement and the stadium operator. The system uses Sentrycs' Cyber-over-RF technology, which combines detection, tracking, identification, and controlled mitigation capabilities in a portable system.
Why It's Important?
The implementation of counter-drone technology at NFL games represents a significant advancement in sports venue security. As drones become more accessible, the risk of unauthorized drone activity at large public events increases, posing potential threats to public safety and operational continuity. By investing in this technology, the Jacksonville Jaguars are taking proactive measures to protect fans, players, and staff from potential drone-related disruptions. This move sets a precedent for other sports franchises to enhance their security measures in response to emerging threats. The use of advanced technology in this context highlights the importance of innovation in maintaining safety and security at major events.
What's Next?
The deployment of counter-drone technology at EverBank Stadium may lead to broader adoption of similar systems across other NFL teams and sports venues. As the technology proves effective, it could become a standard component of security protocols for large public gatherings. The success of this initiative may also encourage further collaboration between sports franchises, law enforcement, and technology providers to develop and implement advanced security solutions. Additionally, the use of counter-drone technology could expand beyond sports venues to other public spaces and events, enhancing overall public safety and security.
