GKN Aerospace has successfully completed the H2GEAR program, a £54 million initiative aimed at advancing hydrogen-powered, zero-carbon flight technologies. Co-funded by the Aerospace Technology Institute, Department for Business and Trade, and Innovate
UK, the program involved collaboration with industrial and academic partners. H2GEAR achieved significant advancements in cryogenic drive systems, high power electrical network architectures, and fuel-cell propulsion system integration. The program also led to the creation of HP Drive Technologies, a joint venture to further develop cryogenic drive system technologies for aerospace applications.
