What's Happening?
John Bush, the vocalist for Armored Saint and former singer for Anthrax, has confirmed that his side project, Electric Spaghetti, has recorded an album. The band, which Bush describes as a 'collaborative passion project,' grew out of songwriting sessions
with guitarist Tara Novick. The lineup also includes bassist Louie Vincent, keyboardist Jon Niemann, and drummer Hawk Lopez. Bush revealed in an interview with RadioRadioX.com that while the album is complete, the band has not yet decided on its release strategy. He noted that Novick, a 'very enthusiastic person,' persistently encouraged him to collaborate, leading to the formation of the project. Bush was impressed by the unique sound of the material Novick presented, which prompted him to write lyrics and contribute to the songs. After developing six or seven tracks, the group decided to perform live, and eventually recorded the album.
Why It's Important?
This development is significant for fans of John Bush and the broader rock and metal music scene, as it signals new material from a respected and influential figure. The formation of Electric Spaghetti as a 'labor of love' highlights a trend among established musicians to pursue passion projects outside their primary bands, allowing for creative exploration and genre diversification. The band's eclectic sound, described as ranging from Little Richard to Deep Purple, suggests a departure from Bush's more traditional metal roots, potentially attracting a wider audience and showcasing his versatility as a vocalist. The involvement of talented musicians like Jon Niemann, known for playing with artists such as Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, further elevates the project's musical credibility. The undecided release strategy also reflects evolving industry dynamics, where artists have more flexibility in how they distribute their music, from traditional labels to independent releases.
What's Next?
The immediate next step for Electric Spaghetti is to determine how and when their recorded album will be released. This decision could involve exploring various options, such as seeking a record label, self-releasing the album, or utilizing digital distribution platforms. The band's approach to release will likely influence its promotional efforts and touring plans. Given the members' established careers, they may leverage their existing networks to generate interest and secure distribution. Fans will be anticipating announcements regarding the album's title, tracklist, and official release date. The band may also consider performing live to support the new material once it becomes available, offering audiences a chance to experience their diverse sound firsthand. The success of this project could also inspire other musicians to pursue similar collaborative ventures.
Beyond the Headlines
The Electric Spaghetti project underscores a broader artistic freedom prevalent in the music industry today, where musicians are less constrained by genre expectations or label demands. John Bush's decision to engage in a project that spans diverse musical styles, from rockabilly to Deep Purple-esque sounds, reflects a desire for creative fulfillment beyond his established metal persona. This kind of cross-genre collaboration can lead to innovative musical fusions and challenge traditional categorizations, enriching the overall musical landscape. The 'labor of love' aspect also highlights the intrinsic motivation that drives many artists, prioritizing artistic expression over commercial pressures. Furthermore, the band's undecided release strategy points to the ongoing evolution of music distribution, where artists have increasing autonomy and direct access to their audience, potentially bypassing traditional gatekeepers and fostering more independent artistic endeavors.
