What's Happening?
Catalyxx has announced the establishment of its first commercial-scale renewable chemicals plant, Catalyxx Ibérica, in Sines, Portugal. This facility marks a significant step in the company's mission to replace fossil-based chemicals with renewable alternatives.
The plant will produce butanol, hexanol, and octanol from bioethanol, offering a low-carbon alternative to conventional petrochemical production. The Sines location was chosen for its industrial infrastructure, deep-water port, and access to renewable energy, which will enhance Catalyxx's position in the bio-based chemicals market. The project has been recognized as a Project of National Interest by the Portuguese Government and is supported by both private investment and public funding, including €20 million from the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking.
