Robigo, a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based biologicals startup, has secured Series A financing led by Leaps by Bayer, Bayer’s strategic investment arm. The funding will advance Robigo’s synthetic biology platform, ARGO, which engineers microbes into crop
protection products. This platform reprograms the genetics of microbes to function as living, engineered biopesticides, producing specific active compounds in the field. This approach significantly reduces the development timeline for new biological products from three to five years to under 20 months. Robigo’s lead candidate is a treatment for sudden death syndrome (SDS) in soybeans, a soil-borne fungal disease prevalent in the U.S. Midwest. Early data suggests this treatment can match the performance of existing commercial chemistry at approximately half the cost, with a targeted U.S. launch in 2028. A second program targets Fusarium wilt in specialty crops, aiming for a 2029 launch.
