What's Happening?
Steven Howells discovered a collection of film and glass plate negatives left by his late grandfather, Bob Howells, who passed away in 1999. Initially unaware of his grandfather's passion for photography, Steven developed the negatives in 2024, revealing
a series of photographs depicting life in Liverpool during the 1940s and 1950s. The collection includes images of family life, work at Campbell and Isherwood, and visits to Goodison Park. Recognizing the historical value, Steven contacted the Museum of Liverpool, where the photographs are now part of an exhibition titled 'Reflections of Liverpool: The Howells' Family Album,' running until September.
Why It's Important?
The exhibition of Bob Howells' photographs offers a unique glimpse into mid-20th century Liverpool, providing cultural and historical insights into the era. This collection not only preserves personal family memories but also contributes to the broader narrative of Liverpool's social history. The display at the Museum of Liverpool allows the public to engage with these historical moments, fostering a deeper understanding of the city's past. Such exhibitions can inspire similar discoveries and highlight the importance of preserving personal and cultural heritage.
