What's Happening?
Shiji, a company specializing in property management systems (PMS), successfully completed a large-scale rollout of a new PMS across more than 100 hotels. The rollout, which averaged seven hotels per day, was managed by Alfredo Goldin, Senior Project
Manager at Shiji. The project faced challenges such as data migration, integration certification, and maintaining front-desk operations during the transition. To address these, Shiji implemented structured governance, dedicated task forces, and onsite interventions to keep the rollout on track. The project was divided into six go-live waves, each with daily sub-waves, ensuring clarity and predictability. Despite the complexity, the rollout was completed within a tightly controlled timeframe, demonstrating the importance of preparation and structured execution.
Why It's Important?
The successful rollout of Shiji's PMS across a large hotel portfolio highlights the critical role of structured governance and coordination in complex technology deployments. This case underscores the importance of preparation and clear communication in managing large-scale operational changes. For the hospitality industry, this serves as a model for executing similar transitions, emphasizing that technology alone is not sufficient; effective management and governance are crucial. The project also illustrates how deep customer understanding and adaptability can mitigate risks and ensure stability, providing valuable insights for other industries facing similar challenges.
What's Next?
Following the successful completion of the PMS rollout, Shiji may focus on refining its processes and tools to further enhance its service offerings. The lessons learned from this project could be applied to future rollouts, potentially leading to more efficient and streamlined operations. Additionally, other hotel groups may look to Shiji's approach as a benchmark for their own technology transitions, potentially leading to increased demand for Shiji's expertise in managing complex deployments.
