What's Happening?
Teradyne Robotics, the company behind Universal Robots and Mobile Industrial Robots, has announced an official partnership with Sereact, a pioneer in physical AI for robotics. This collaboration aims to accelerate industrial AI solutions in the retail,
logistics, and manufacturing sectors. The partnership focuses on integrating Sereact's physical AI platform, Cortex, with Universal Robots' arms to automate unstructured tasks such as returns handling and piece-picking. Hundreds of UR robots in dual-arm systems have already been deployed to customer sites across Europe. Sereact's Cortex platform is trained using NVIDIA Isaac Sim and Cosmos open world models, post-trained with NVIDIA Isaac Lab, and runs on NVIDIA Jetson Thor for inference and NVIDIA DGX Spark for development and model updates.
Why It's Important?
This partnership is significant for the U.S. market as Sereact has opened a U.S. headquarters in Boston, Massachusetts, to bring these joint solutions to North America. The collaboration addresses a critical need for intelligent, adaptable automation in industries facing labor shortages and increasing demands for efficiency. By automating complex, unstructured tasks like handling returned fashion items, the solution can significantly reduce operational costs and improve throughput for retailers and logistics providers. The use of NVIDIA technologies ensures that these robots are powered by cutting-edge AI, enabling them to handle mixed goods, unknown items, and varied packaging without extensive retraining. This advancement moves beyond traditional robotic automation, which typically requires highly structured environments, opening up new possibilities for AI-driven efficiency across various supply chain operations.
What's Next?
With Sereact establishing a U.S. headquarters, the joint solution from Teradyne Robotics and Sereact is poised for rapid expansion into the North American market. The companies plan to scale these AI-powered solutions across various applications, industries, and markets, leveraging Teradyne Robotics' global distribution and integrator network. The focus will be on deploying robots that can perform a wide range of tasks with a single AI model, reducing the need for retraining for each new item or task. This 'one brain serves every robot' approach promises to accelerate the adoption of AI-powered automation, particularly in areas like returns handling, store replenishment, and piece-picking, which are currently labor-intensive and costly. The continued integration of NVIDIA's advanced AI and simulation tools will further enhance the capabilities and reliability of these robotic systems.
