What's Happening?
NBCUniversal Local has launched its 12th annual Clear The Shelters campaign, a month-long initiative aimed at promoting pet adoptions and raising funds for animal shelters. The campaign, which runs through the end of August, encourages the public to adopt pets
from participating shelters and rescues. Last year's campaign resulted in over 160,000 pet adoptions and raised more than $628,000, marking the highest fundraising total since 2020. This year, the campaign is supported by longtime partner Hill’s Pet Nutrition and other organizations like Greater Good Charities and WeRescue. The initiative has been instrumental in finding homes for over 1.3 million pets and raising more than $5.6 million since its inception in 2015.
Why It's Important?
The Clear The Shelters campaign plays a vital role in addressing the issue of overcrowded animal shelters by facilitating pet adoptions and raising necessary funds. By promoting adoption, the campaign helps reduce the number of animals in shelters, thereby improving the welfare of countless pets. The initiative also raises awareness about the importance of adopting pets from shelters rather than purchasing them from breeders, which can help combat the issue of puppy mills. Additionally, the funds raised support shelters in providing better care for animals, including medical treatment and improved living conditions. This campaign not only benefits the animals but also enriches the lives of adopters by bringing pets into loving homes.
