What's Happening?
Lockheed Martin is preparing to start production in 2027 for its upgraded Sniper Networked Targeting Pod (NTP). This new version is designed to enhance network connectivity among fourth-generation fighters,
the F-35, and future Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA). The Sniper NTP will incorporate data cards that enable communication over the Multifunction Advanced Data Link (MADL) and the Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET). Paul Schulze, Lockheed Martin's director of Sniper international business development, highlighted the need for this upgrade due to latency issues with the current Link 16 network. The company is currently conducting flight tests and redesigning the pod's chassis to accommodate the new technology.
