The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) has released new research identifying the most crucial telematics measures and functionalities for motor carriers. This research aims to help fleets improve safety, operations, and maintenance by focusing
on high-value performance metrics. The study found that while some metrics are widely adopted, others with significant impact are underutilized. For instance, 'cost per mile' received the highest importance score in the operations category, yet only 73% of respondents reported using it. The report, titled 'From Telematics Data to Decisions: High-Value Performance Metrics for Trucking Operations,' provides a framework for fleets and telematics providers to evaluate and prioritize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Robert Braswell, executive director of the American Trucking Associations’ (ATA) Technology & Maintenance Council (TMC), emphasized that the research offers a practical guide for carriers to assess what they currently measure versus what they should measure to enhance their overall performance.
