What's Happening?
A new partnership between Sweep, a sustainability intelligence platform, and HowGood, a product carbon footprint automation company, aims to improve sustainability reporting for food and agriculture companies. This collaboration will integrate HowGood's
extensive database of over 12 million product carbon footprints into Sweep's platform. This integration allows companies to utilize ingredient-level and product-level emissions data for Scope 3 carbon accounting, supplier engagement, and regulatory reporting without the need for manual data transfers. Scope 3 emissions, which are not directly controlled by the company but occur in its value chain, often constitute the majority of a company's total greenhouse gas emissions. Companies like Ahold Delhaize, Danone SA, and Ferrero Group are already using HowGood for detailed product carbon footprints and Scope 3 emissions reporting.
Why It's Important?
The partnership addresses a significant challenge in corporate carbon accounting for food companies, which is the reliance on generic industry averages that introduce uncertainty. By providing granular emissions data, the partnership aims to replace this uncertainty with actionable and auditable numbers that reflect actual sourcing and manufacturing processes. This is crucial for food companies, which handle complex sustainability data that is often fragmented and difficult to report on with confidence. The integration of HowGood's data into Sweep's platform offers a comprehensive, audit-ready foundation for food and agriculture companies, enabling them to report accurately across various frameworks and make informed decisions.
