What's Happening?
The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), supported by the Economic Research Service at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will convene a research conference in Washington, D.C., on Friday, May 21, 2027. The conference aims to promote research on innovation
within the agricultural and food system. Over the past century, technological advancements have significantly transformed U.S. agriculture, leading to substantial increases in total output despite a dramatic decline in labor use. This productivity growth has been driven by mechanization, improvements in plant and animal genetics, increased use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, and advancements in farm management practices. Modern agriculture is increasingly integrated with upstream input industries, downstream processing and retailing, data and financial services, and global supply chains. GianCarlo Moschini (Iowa State University) and Paul Rhode (University of Michigan) will organize the event, inviting submissions of original economic research on these topics.
