What's Happening?
Mayer Brown has announced the appointment of Caroline Texier as a partner in its Restructuring & Insolvency practice in Paris. Texier, who previously led the restructuring practice at Paul Hastings in Paris, brings over two decades of experience in advising
companies, shareholders, private equity sponsors, investment funds, debt investors, and creditors in financially distressed situations. Her expertise spans a wide range of financial and operational restructuring matters, including out-of-court negotiations, conciliation proceedings, safeguard procedures, judicial reorganizations, distressed mergers and acquisitions, and insolvency-related disputes. Texier is admitted to practice law in both France and New York, providing a valuable perspective on international transactions involving European and U.S. legal frameworks. This strategic hire aims to expand Mayer Brown’s presence in the French restructuring market and enhance coordination among its legal teams in Paris, London, and the U.S.
Why It's Important?
This appointment is significant as businesses and investment firms globally are navigating increasing refinancing requirements, debt restructurings, and financial challenges impacting leveraged transactions. The addition of Texier strengthens Mayer Brown's capabilities in distressed investments, corporate reorganizations, insolvency proceedings, and cross-border restructurings, which are critical services in the current economic climate. Her experience in leveraged buyout restructurings and private credit transactions is particularly relevant, as these complex financing arrangements often necessitate intricate negotiations among various stakeholders. For U.S. clients with European interests, Texier's dual admission to practice law in France and New York will facilitate smoother navigation of international legal frameworks, ensuring more integrated and effective legal advice in cross-border restructuring scenarios. This move positions Mayer Brown to better serve clients facing complex, multi-jurisdictional financial distress.
What's Next?
Mayer Brown intends to leverage Texier’s expertise to further integrate its restructuring services across its international offices, particularly between Paris, London, and the U.S. The firm anticipates that her arrival will enhance its ability to advise clients on transactions involving French businesses and international creditors, especially as refinancing pressures and private credit restructurings accelerate across Europe. This appointment follows the addition of restructuring partner Richard Stieglitz in New York in 2025, indicating a continued strategic investment by Mayer Brown in its international restructuring platform. The firm expects to see increased collaboration on cross-border mandates, including LBO workouts, real estate distress, and other complex financial challenges, offering clients a more coordinated and comprehensive legal solution.
Beyond the Headlines
The recruitment of a partner with Texier's specific skill set highlights a broader trend in the legal industry: the growing demand for specialized expertise in complex financial restructuring and insolvency, particularly in cross-border contexts. As global economies face potential headwinds and increased financial volatility, law firms are strategically bolstering their capabilities to handle intricate debt negotiations, corporate reorganizations, and distressed asset transactions. This move by Mayer Brown also underscores the increasing interconnectedness of global financial markets, where legal advice must seamlessly bridge different jurisdictions and legal systems. The ability to offer integrated Paris–London–U.S. restructuring capabilities becomes a competitive advantage, reflecting the evolving needs of multinational corporations and investment funds navigating a challenging economic landscape.
