What's Happening?
The Workforce Pell initiative, enacted through a Reconciliation package on July 4, 2025, expands traditional Pell Grant eligibility to include short-term, career-focused education programs. This policy aims to make workforce education more affordable
and accessible for adult learners, working professionals, and nontraditional students. The initiative is designed to help individuals earn industry-recognized credentials and support employers in strengthening talent pipelines and expanding access to workforce training. The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is hosting a webinar to help HR leaders understand the policy's implications and how it can be leveraged to support upskilling, reskilling, and long-term workforce planning.
