What's Happening?
Xenom, a new functional fitness competition, has been introduced as 'The Decathlon of Fitness,' combining elements of CrossFit and Hyrox. The event, held at the Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, attracted over 250 athletes from around the world. Xenom features
10 events over two days, testing participants' overall fitness through activities like running, weightlifting, and CrossFit staples. The competition aims to provide a mass-participation event with a premium feel, similar to Ironman competitions. Founded by Keith Barlow, Xenom seeks to offer a Games-like experience for a broader audience, distinguishing itself from traditional CrossFit Games by being more accessible.
Why It's Important?
Xenom's introduction signifies a growing trend in the fitness industry towards large-scale, inclusive competitions that cater to serious fitness enthusiasts. By blending CrossFit's methodology with Hyrox's format, Xenom offers a new platform for athletes to test their skills and endurance. This development could impact the fitness industry by attracting a diverse range of participants and potentially increasing interest in functional fitness. The competition's success may encourage other fitness events to adopt similar models, promoting a more inclusive and competitive environment for fitness enthusiasts.
What's Next?
Xenom plans to expand globally, with future events scheduled in London, Miami, and Paris. The competition aims to attract around 2,000 competitors per event, with entry fees set at over $300. As Xenom grows, it will need to address challenges such as the technical difficulty of events and the need for clear communication with participants. The competition's success will depend on its ability to appeal to a wide audience while maintaining the high standards and excitement of elite-level fitness competitions.
