What's Happening?
The Vancouver Canucks have announced the signing of defenseman Cole Clayton to a one-year, two-way contract. Clayton, 26, played 32 games for the Abbotsford Canucks this season, where he accumulated six points and 27 penalty minutes. He also played 33
games for the San Jose Barracuda in the 2025-26 season, recording five points and 21 penalty minutes. Clayton has a history of playing in the AHL, with 289 career games and 72 points. Before turning professional, he played for the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, leading all WHL defensemen in goals and points during the 2020-21 season.
Why It's Important?
This signing is significant for the Vancouver Canucks as it strengthens their defensive lineup with a player who has substantial experience in the AHL. Clayton's history of consistent performance and his ability to contribute both offensively and defensively make him a valuable asset. The two-way nature of the contract allows the Canucks flexibility in managing their roster, as Clayton can be moved between the NHL and AHL as needed. This move could also impact the team's strategy in upcoming games and their overall performance in the league.
