What's Happening?
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson of Rush have announced a five-date residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas, titled 'Elevate From The Norm.' The performances are scheduled for May 21, 23, 26, 28, and 30. This residency follows
their ongoing 'Fifty Something' comeback tour, which has seen the band perform across multiple continents. The Sphere shows will feature a selection of fan favorites and greatest hits, celebrating Rush's music, legacy, and the life of their late drummer and lyricist, Neil Peart, who passed away in 2020. For these performances, Lee and Lifeson will be joined by drummer Anika Nilles and keyboardist Loren Gold. Geddy Lee expressed excitement about the Sphere's visual capabilities, noting that the venue is tailor-made for the kind of visual spectacle Rush has always aimed for in their shows. The band plans to expand their touring concepts to suit the unique venue, potentially performing entire albums like '2112' and 'Moving Pictures.'

The Sphere's advanced visual capabilities allow bands like Rush to create highly immersive and visually stunning shows, pushing the boundaries of live performance. This trend could lead to a broader shift in how legacy acts approach touring, moving towards more technologically integrated and extended engagements in specialized venues. Furthermore, the continuation of Rush's legacy with new musicians, while honoring Neil Peart, raises questions about the evolution of iconic bands after the loss of key members. It highlights the balance between preserving a band's original sound and embracing new talent to keep the music alive for future generations.
