What's Happening?
Luxury fashion house Loewe and Swiss sportswear label On have deepened their partnership with a new collection of footwear and ready-to-wear items, designed for 'artistic exploration.' This collaboration, which began in 2022, will see its latest offerings
available from October 15 in select stores and online platforms for both brands. The collection introduces two new footwear styles: the Cloudsolo Hiker, which reinterprets hiking trainer designs with On’s Cloud heel and a lugged outsole, and the Cloudtilt Cosmic, offering a more streamlined silhouette with a new CloudTec Phase bottom unit for enhanced cushioning. The ready-to-wear line combines Loewe’s distinctive aesthetic with functional outdoor apparel codes, featuring parkas, padded pieces with adjustable features, micro-ripstop jackets, and pleated cargo trousers. The color palette includes black, khaki green, dark orange, purple, and yellow, with multi-colored prints inspired by the Swiss Alps. The campaign for the collection highlights movement as a source of creativity, featuring artists Joan Jonas, Martine Syms, and Tarek Atoui, photographed and filmed by Rosie Marks.
Why It's Important?
This collaboration signifies a growing trend in the fashion industry where luxury brands are merging with performance-oriented labels to cater to a consumer base that values both style and functionality. For Loewe, part of the LVMH conglomerate, this partnership allows them to expand their reach into the burgeoning athleisure and outdoor apparel markets, leveraging On's technical expertise. For On, a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange with significant global revenue, the collaboration with a high-fashion house like Loewe elevates its brand perception and introduces its technical innovations to a luxury audience. The collection's focus on 'artistic exploration' and its campaign featuring artists underscore a broader cultural shift towards integrating creative expression with active lifestyles. This strategic alliance could set a precedent for future collaborations, influencing product development and marketing strategies across both the luxury fashion and sportswear sectors, ultimately impacting consumer choices and market trends.
What's Next?
The new collection will be available to consumers starting October 15, both online and in selected physical stores of Loewe and On. The success of this collection will likely influence the future trajectory of the partnership, potentially leading to further annual drops and expanded product lines. Given the emphasis on 'artistic exploration,' future campaigns might continue to feature collaborations with artists and focus on the intersection of movement, creativity, and fashion. The financial performance of Loewe SA, which saw a 9.2% increase in sales in its last financial year, and On's substantial revenue in 2025, suggest a strong market for such collaborations. The continued evolution of this partnership could also inspire other luxury and sportswear brands to explore similar ventures, further blurring the lines between high fashion and functional apparel. Consumers can anticipate more innovative designs that blend technical performance with high-end aesthetics.
Beyond the Headlines
The Loewe and On collaboration reflects a deeper cultural shift towards a more integrated lifestyle where the boundaries between work, leisure, and personal expression are increasingly fluid. The emphasis on 'artistic exploration' suggests a move beyond mere utility in sportswear, positioning activewear as a medium for creative and intellectual engagement. This trend challenges traditional notions of luxury, which historically prioritized exclusivity and aesthetic over practical function. By incorporating technical engineering into high fashion, the brands are tapping into a desire for products that are not only visually appealing but also enhance lived experiences, whether in urban environments or natural landscapes. This convergence could lead to a redefinition of luxury itself, where value is placed on versatility, innovation, and the ability of products to support a holistic and dynamic lifestyle. It also highlights the increasing importance of storytelling and artistic narratives in brand marketing, moving beyond product features to connect with consumers on an emotional and aspirational level.
