What's Happening?
The Cleveland Browns have filled their final two roster spots as they prepare for Week 9 against the New Orleans Saints. General Manager Andrew Berry signed tight end Carsen Ryan from the practice squad and added running back Hassan Haskins to the practice squad.
Ryan, a seventh-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft, was previously waived to accommodate quarterback Dillon Gabriel and has played in seven games this season, primarily on special teams. Haskins, a fifth-year player from Michigan, has had stints with the Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Chargers, appearing in 44 career games. He recently spent time on the New England Patriots' practice squad before joining the Browns. These moves come after the team waived running back Audric Estime, creating an open spot on both the 53-man roster and the practice squad.
Why It's Important?
These roster adjustments are crucial for the Cleveland Browns as they navigate the ongoing NFL season, particularly with quarterback Deshaun Watson in concussion protocol. The addition of Hassan Haskins provides depth at the running back position, which is vital for maintaining a strong ground game, especially given the team's struggles with run defense highlighted in recent reports. Carsen Ryan's elevation from the practice squad indicates the team's strategy to utilize players who are already familiar with their system and can contribute immediately, particularly on special teams. These strategic personnel decisions aim to bolster the team's performance and address areas of weakness as they head into a critical phase of their schedule, impacting their competitive standing in the league.
What's Next?
The Cleveland Browns will continue their preparations for their Week 9 matchup against the New Orleans Saints. The integration of Carsen Ryan and Hassan Haskins into the team will be closely monitored, with their performance potentially influencing future roster decisions. The team's coaching staff will assess how these new additions contribute to both offensive and special teams schemes. The ongoing status of quarterback Deshaun Watson's concussion protocol will also be a significant factor, potentially impacting offensive strategies and the roles of other players. Further roster moves could occur as the season progresses, depending on player health, performance, and strategic needs.
