Calgary-based cleantech company EnerPure has successfully raised US$35 million (approximately C$49 million) in growth equity financing. This funding is earmarked for the commercialization of its proprietary technology, which converts used motor oil into
low-sulfur marine fuels. The investment round was spearheaded by Rice Investment Group (RIG), a U.S. energy-focused fund, with a significant contribution of US$20 million (approximately C$28 million) from the Canada Growth Fund (CGF). EnerPure's technology utilizes a small-scale, modular process to upgrade waste petroleum products into drop-in fuels that are compatible with existing marine engines. The newly acquired capital will be directed towards the construction of EnerPure's inaugural commercial facility in Alberta, with operations anticipated to commence in 2028.
