What's Happening?
Etihad Airways and Nigeria's Air Peace have entered into an interline agreement aimed at expanding travel options across Nigeria, West Africa, and Central Africa. Announced in Lagos on July 23, the agreement allows Etihad passengers to book a single ticket
from Abu Dhabi to 20 destinations on Air Peace's network via Lagos and Accra, Ghana. This includes major Nigerian cities such as Abuja, Asaba, and Port Harcourt, as well as regional destinations like Abidjan, Bamako, and Dakar. The deal follows the UAE-Nigeria Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement signed in January and is part of Etihad's broader African expansion strategy, which includes daily flights from Abu Dhabi to Lagos starting March 18, 2027.
Why It's Important?
This agreement is significant as it strengthens the aviation links between the UAE and Africa, tapping into the Nigerian diaspora market in the Emirates and leveraging Nigeria's position as Africa's most populous nation and a major economy. For Etihad, this partnership enhances its network reach in Africa, providing passengers with more travel options and potentially increasing passenger traffic. For Air Peace, the deal opens new routes for regional travelers to reach Abu Dhabi, enhancing its international connectivity.
