Despite European politicians implementing tariffs, including a maximum 45.3% tariff on Chinese pure electric models in 2024, Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers continue to expand their presence in the European market. Data from AlixPartners indicates
that Chinese automakers can produce an EV for $20,000, significantly less than the $31,000 cost for similar models in Europe, creating an $11,000 cost advantage. Analysts suggest that tariffs cannot eliminate this structural cost gap, only weaken price competitiveness.
