The Intermountain West Nuclear Energy Corridor Tech Hub, spanning Idaho and Wyoming, has been awarded $31 million by the U.S. Department of Commerce, with an additional $9 million in private matching funds. This funding aims to support over two dozen
partners, including colleges, state agencies, and private companies, focusing on workforce development and supply chain enhancement. Hope Morrow, vice president of the Idaho Advanced Energy Consortium, highlighted the importance of rebuilding the nuclear workforce, which has seen a decline over the past 30 years. The funds will support training programs at community colleges and universities, such as a chemical engineering technician program at Gillette College in Wyoming. Additionally, the funding will assist nuclear startups in overcoming early operational challenges, known as the 'valley of death,' by improving supply chain and workforce availability.
