What's Happening?
St. Mary’s County is celebrating National Lighthouse Weekend by offering free admission to the Piney Point Lighthouse Museum & Historic Park on August 8 and 9. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore the oldest lighthouse tower on the Potomac River,
built in 1836 by John Donahoo. The event includes free tours of the lighthouse tower, keeper’s quarters, and the Potomac River Maritime Exhibit. The Piney Point Lighthouse, known as the 'Lighthouse of the Presidents,' has a rich history as a summer retreat for Washington’s elite. The site was decommissioned in 1964 and later restored by the county’s Museum Division. The celebration also features a visit to St. Clement’s Island to see a replica of the Blackistone Lighthouse.
