What's Happening?
Sage Potash Corp has announced the commencement of drilling at its Sage Plain Potash Project in Utah, following the acquisition of necessary permits from San Juan County and the State of Utah. The company has engaged Westrock Energy Services to oversee
the drilling program, with Drake Well Service as the drilling contractor. The initiative involves drilling a 1.275 km stepout hole to the north-northeast from the initial hole used to calculate the current resource. Historical drilling has identified significant potash mineralization within the Cycle 18 upper and lower beds at depths of approximately 2,100 meters. The drilling aims to target potash-bearing horizons to expand and upgrade resource confidence levels. Additionally, a comprehensive hydrogeological assessment will evaluate yield rates and water quality in saline non-potable aquifers. CEO J. Patricio Varas highlighted the permits as a major milestone in advancing the Sage Plain project.
Why It's Important?
The initiation of drilling at the Sage Plain Potash Project is a significant step towards establishing domestic potash production in the United States. Potash is a critical component in fertilizer production, and increasing domestic supply could reduce reliance on imports, potentially stabilizing prices and ensuring a steady supply for U.S. agriculture. The project could also contribute to local economic development through job creation and increased business for local contractors. The successful expansion and upgrading of resource confidence levels could lead to further investment in the project, supporting broader development planning and feasibility studies.
What's Next?
Sage Potash plans to release an updated resource estimate in the third quarter of 2026, incorporating results from the current drilling campaign and historical data. This updated estimate will support feasibility studies, detailed engineering, and broader development planning. The company and its contractors are preparing to mobilize for the drill program shortly, indicating a proactive approach to advancing the project. The outcomes of this drilling campaign will be crucial in determining the project's viability and future development steps.
