What's Happening?
San Francisco Regional Mensa, sponsored by the Mensa Foundation, is hosting its 2026 Regional Gathering, 'Brilliance by the Bay,' in Burlingame, California, from November 20-22. As part of this event, a Mensa Admission Test will be offered on Saturday,
November 21, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Hilton San Francisco Airport Bayfront. The test, which costs $60 and takes approximately two hours, is for individuals interested in qualifying for Mensa membership. Participants are invited to attend Saturday's gathering activities, which include presentations, workshops, and discussions on various topics such such as science, technology, arts, creativity, history, humanities, and personal growth. Mensa is an international organization for individuals who score in the top 2% on standardized intelligence tests.
Why It's Important?
This event provides a unique opportunity for individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond to assess their cognitive abilities and potentially join a global community of high-IQ individuals. Mensa membership offers a platform for intellectual exchange, networking, and social engagement among like-minded individuals, which can be particularly valuable for those seeking intellectual stimulation and connection. The regional gathering itself fosters a sense of community and provides educational and enriching experiences through its diverse programming. For the Mensa Foundation, sponsoring such events helps to promote its mission of identifying and fostering human intelligence, while also raising awareness about the organization and its benefits. The event also contributes to the local economy of Burlingame through hotel bookings and attendee spending.
What's Next?
Individuals interested in taking the Mensa Admission Test must purchase a test and then email Mensa Proctor Sandy Feder to confirm their attendance and reserve a seat. Following the test, participants will receive their scores and, if they qualify, will be invited to join Mensa. The 'Brilliance by the Bay' gathering will continue with its scheduled activities, offering attendees further opportunities for learning and social interaction. The success of this regional gathering may influence future Mensa events and outreach efforts in other regions, potentially leading to more opportunities for individuals to explore Mensa membership and engage with its community.
Beyond the Headlines
The Mensa Admission Test and regional gathering highlight a broader societal interest in intelligence, cognitive abilities, and the pursuit of intellectual communities. In an increasingly complex world, organizations like Mensa offer a space for individuals to connect based on shared intellectual curiosity, which can be a powerful antidote to social isolation. The event also subtly underscores the importance of lifelong learning and intellectual development, regardless of age or profession. Furthermore, the focus on diverse topics at the gathering—from science and technology to arts and humanities—reflects a holistic view of intelligence that extends beyond academic achievement, embracing creativity and interdisciplinary thinking. This gathering serves as a reminder that intellectual pursuits can be both personally enriching and socially connective.
