American Express is discontinuing two significant card features and revising rewards and lounge benefits for its cardholders in India. Effective September 16, 2026, the 'Check Your Spending Power' feature will no longer be available. This feature previously
allowed cardholders to verify if a planned purchase would be approved before making the transaction. Following this, the 'Emergency Card Replacement' service will cease on October 8. This service provided expedited delivery of replacement cards. While standard replacement processes will remain, the estimated timeline for receiving a new card will extend to 7-10 business days. Additionally, the 'Reward Multiplier' program will be discontinued from September 30, 2026. Changes are also being implemented for the American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card, including the discontinuation of additional Membership Rewards points at the Rs 1.9 lakh and Rs 7 lakh annual spending milestones, though the Taj Experiences e-Gift Card benefit at the Rs 7 lakh milestone will increase. Domestic airport lounge access on this card will also become spend-linked from October.
