What's Happening?
A consortium including Microsoft, Lightstorm, Tata Communications, Singapore Telecommunications, ASEAN Cableship, and NEC Corporation has announced plans to construct a new undersea cable, named I-2SEA, connecting India with Malaysia and Singapore. The
cable will span 3,600 kilometers and is designed to support AI, cloud, and hyperscale workloads. Landing stations will be located in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The project is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2029. Lightstorm, backed by I Squared, aims to increase its AI and cloud zones in India from 19 to 29 with this new network.
