What's Happening?
Music & Potlucks, a nonprofit organization based in the Oak Park and River Forest area, is actively fighting hunger and supporting local charities through live folk music events. Founded by Liz Ziehl,
Stephanie Schrodt, and Betsy Backes, the organization hosts monthly folk jam sessions and other performances where they collect food and monetary donations. Since its inception, Music & Potlucks has raised over $50,000 and hundreds of pounds of food, diapers, and toiletries. They have partnered with organizations like Beyond Hunger, providing over 8,000 meals to the community, and also support other social service agencies such as Housing Forward and Building Chicago. Mark Dvorak, a teacher at the Old Town School of Folk Music, serves as their artist in residence, leading participants in American folk music, a genre known for its community-building spirit.
