What's Happening?
Anthropic has launched Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), a new solution designed to offer both zero data retention (ZDR) privacy and advanced misuse detection capabilities for its AI models. EFS allows enterprise customers to store their data in their own
cloud infrastructure, rather than with Anthropic, addressing concerns about data storage and regulatory compliance, particularly in sensitive industries. This system enables customers to control how their data is reviewed, with signals of potential misuse sent directly to them for internal review. The development of EFS involved collaboration with over 100 customers across various sectors, including financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and the public sector, as well as cloud partners like Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure. EFS will be rolled out in phases, with eligible customers receiving ZDR on Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 until EFS is fully available. The solution aims to mitigate risks associated with increasingly intelligent AI models, such as fraud and sophisticated cyberattacks, by allowing for data monitoring across multiple sessions and accounts without compromising customer data privacy.

What's Next?
EFS will be rolled out to customers in phases, with a broader availability expected later this fall. Eligible customers will initially receive ZDR on Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 to facilitate a smooth transition. Anthropic will continue to support EFS on various platforms, including Claude Code, Claude Enterprise, the Claude Platform, Amazon Bedrock, Claude Platform on AWS, Google’s Agent Platform, and Microsoft Foundry. Customers can opt-in for features like customer-owned storage, customer-managed encryption keys, and fully automated review, tailoring the safeguards to their specific organizational needs. While Anthropic will not charge for EFS, customers electing to store data in their own cloud accounts will be billed by their cloud providers for storage, reads, writes, and data egress fees. The ongoing phased rollout will allow enterprises to gradually integrate these advanced safeguards, potentially leading to wider adoption of frontier AI models across critical U.S. infrastructure and regulated industries as trust and compliance are established.
