The U.S. Attorney's Office has successfully recovered $848,858 for victims of a fraud scheme at a Bozeman-based dairy cooperative, Country Classic Dairies. The fraud, which occurred between 2007 and 2008, involved Jeffrey Nicholas McCown and three other
employees who misused co-op funds for personal expenses. McCown was convicted of wire fraud and conspiracy in 2011 and sentenced to three years in federal prison. The recovery of funds was made possible after the Financial Litigation Unit discovered McCown was due a substantial payout from a business sale, which was garnished to fulfill his restitution obligations.
