Live horse racing is returning to South Sioux City, Nebraska, for an expanded two weekends in 2026 at Atokad. The first weekend of races is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, and Sunday, August 30. The second
weekend will take place over Labor Day weekend, from Saturday, September 5, through Monday, September 7. Jim Traylor, racing operations director for WarHorse Gaming and chair of the South Sioux City Racing Events, stated that interest in the sport significantly exceeded expectations last year, with 2,000 to 2,500 attendees compared to an anticipated 500. This year, organizers have added more days, expanded seating, and introduced new amenities such as tents for shade, a kids' zone, a new paddock area, a new jockey building, and a new barn. Admission to the races, which begin at 1:30 p.m. daily with four races per day, is free.
