The Milwaukee Brewers have designated veteran pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. for assignment less than two weeks after acquiring him from the Houston Astros. The decision was announced before the Brewers'
game against the Colorado Rockies. In a corresponding move, the Brewers recalled right-handed pitcher Garrett Stallings from Triple-A Nashville. McCullers, who had been primarily a starter throughout his career, struggled in a relief role with the Brewers, walking four batters in 1 2/3 innings during an 8-5 victory over the Rockies. In his brief stint with Milwaukee, McCullers posted a 3.86 ERA over 4 2/3 innings, striking out five and walking five. The Brewers had acquired McCullers and left-hander Colton Gordon from the Astros in exchange for minor league outfielder Jadyn Fielder on July 15. At the time of the trade, McCullers was on the injured list with shoulder inflammation and had not pitched since May 13. His career with the Astros included being part of the 2017 and 2022 World Series championship teams.
