U.S. solar module manufacturing capacity has experienced a dramatic increase, surging by over 750% to nearly 70 gigawatts by June 2026, up from approximately 8 gigawatts just a few years prior. This significant growth is largely attributed to federal
incentives, particularly the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credits, and substantial private investment. New solar factories are opening monthly across the U.S., especially in the South and Midwest. Notable examples include Qcells' full ingot-to-panel cell production facility in Cartersville, Georgia—the first of its kind in over a decade—and Translucent Solar's 281,000-square-foot factory in Summerville, South Carolina, which is expected to support 167 jobs and produce 1.2 gigawatts of annual capacity by the end of 2026. Other companies like First Solar, T1 Energy, SEG Solar, Canadian Solar, and ES Foundry are also contributing to this domestic buildout.
